Akash Mehra asked:

You have made a fantastic website, getting the best web designer to design your website and have also put it up and launched the same, now what ? Nothing.

Yes, absolutely nothing, unless and until people know about your website and they keep coming onto it. The basic pupose of any website should be to bring business for its owners. Websites can bring in more business only if they rank higher on search engines, and to rank your website higher on search engines you need to promote your website which is also known as web promotion or search engine optimization.

In many of our previous articles, we have stressed the importance of Web Promotion.

You can undertake the web promotion or search engine optimization of your website whenever you wish, i.e. to say that you can get your website promoted while it is being designed or after the website is designed and launched. But it makes business sense, to go for web promotion while your website is still being designed. This can be attributed to the following facts;

* Famous search engines have provided with web designing guidelines to rank higher in search engines

* Web Promotion can be effectively done by your web designer.

Basically, web promotion is the job of your web designer or website developer. Before you award the web designing contract to a web designer it is very important for the web designing company to know the importance of Web Promotion. A web designer who does not know what web promotion or search engine optimization is will not create a search engine friendly website and with that your chances of getting higher rabk in search engines will be destroyed. So, a basic thumb rule would be to hire only professional web dsigners who know the importance of Search Engine Optimization and Web Promotion.

Well, but it will not be an easy job to get the web designing company on the same lines of thinking as yours. They know the importance of SEO and web promotion but rarely do pay more attention in developing the pages for that goal. Without exception, all the web designers focus all of their energies in creating a website which looks cool and is visually appealing. In this venture, they lose out on the focus on search engines. Each and every web designer has his own set of methods and ways of designing a website. So, how and what will you talk to your web designer so that web promotion is integrated with your web designing. That is to say, what brief should be given to the web designer that your website ranks higher on search engines and yet looks very attractive too.

1. Importance of Web Promotion or Search Engine Optimization

The first step would be let your web designer understand the importance of ranking high in a search engine. How important is it for you and your business to rank at the top of search engine results. If your web developer does not understand this, he will not design a search engine friendly website. You have to make him understand that a website however attractive will be rendered useless if it does not rank high on search engines. Search Engine is the place where all the inquiries and traffic is generated . If your website is promoted well, potential customers will be able to find your site on search engines which will translate into more leads and more sales.

2. Visually appealing websites

Some web designers will insist that if you want to make a search engine friendly website than your website should have less of graphics and images and more of text. While this stands true to a certain extent, but in no way it means that your website should not be attractive. There are many visually appealing websites that rank higher on search engines. So, do take care that you are not botched with a website which might rank higher on search engines but is not visually appealing. You need both !

3. Guidelines

Ask the web designer to follow the Web Designing Guidelines by Google. If this guidelines are followed — most probably you will start ranking higher in a few months.

4. Communication is the KEY !

While the designing of your website is under process, be in constant touch with the web designer. Start working with the web designer well before he makes the design. Inform him of your important keywords, and if possible, furnish him with the content about your company, your products and services, because no one kows your business better than you. Make sure that web designer understands your content very well and applies his own presence of mind instead of just pasting the content.

5. Original Content

Again, do not ignore the importance of relevant content when you wish to have a website designed which will rank higher in search engines. Provide the content which contains your keywords. Make sure that the content is original and not duplicated from anywhere else.

6. Links - Internal & External

Inform your web designer that there should be no dead links - internal or external on your website. All the links on your website should be accesible from atleast one page from within your website.

7. Alt Tags

Ask the web designer to provide ALT tags to provide a keyword-rich description for every image on your site.

If the above is to be summed up in brief, Before getting a website design, ask your web designer to;

Develop a website which will rank higher in search engines

Follow the guidelines provided by Google

Develop original content with keywords included in it

Get Incoming links from relevant websites

Sandi Baker asked:

Backlinks, To Buy or Not to Buy?

Backlinks are an important part of a websites search engine rankings. However quality backlinks, those from the topic of your website, and relevant area are of importance as well.

Anchor text, which is where the link is pointing will also increase your page ranking. Vary it to closely match the content of the page you are backlinking with.

Obtaining Backlinks

There are numerous way to obtain backlinks. We will go through several of them including paying for them, swapping and free backlinks.

One way is to ask for backlinks with others that you correspond or do business with. These may be people that you have a relationship online with such as from social media groups or those you have purchased products from. Once again, make sure that these are related to your business. You do not want just any link!

You can also purchase links directly from bloggers or other webmasters. This way is more difficult for the search engines to pick up on, as far as the buying part of. Search engines are not found of buying backlinks but they can increase your rankings.

This method is also the cheapest. Once again look for quality and contect as well as anchor text.

How it works

Mega Links Exchange is a network of link publishers, who publish a directory on their websites which is managed by Mega Links Exchange. The directory consists of only one small 1kb file, linked from the publishers homepage. Link publishing is free because link publishers websites are included in the network. Mega Links Exchange checks all links in the network on an hourly basis, to ensure that no deadlinks will be published at anytime. If a dead link is found, the website will be instantly suspended and removed from the network. The owner of the dead link will be notified about this situation and asked to correct.

Signup as link publisher and get free links instantly:

1. Register for an account.

2. Create link campaign, submit your URL, title and description you want to display throughout the network.

3. Upload a small 1kb file to your server which is provided to you in the account panel, link to the file from your website.

The file will show a directory with links of all publishers, just as on other publisher sites that link to you. This will increase your backlink count instantly and daily, as new publisher sites join which display your link in their directories.

How to exchange links?

Frequently Asked Questions » General

Link Market’s link exchange is accomplished by a very simple and extremely effective 1-2-3 link exchange step process. Link Market users sign in to their account and browse the link directory. Once appropriate links have been found, the user places them in the link cart. Once ready to send the link exchange request, the user goes to the link cart and sends the link request. At that time, the link request gets sent out. This is where Link Market’s 1-2-3 link exchange step process starts.

Terms:

Webmaster (RQ) is a Link Market member that is requesting a link exchange.

Webmaster (RC) is a Link Market member that is receiving a link exchange request.

Step

Webmaster (RC) receives a link request via e-mail and is instructed to log in to the Link Market account to respond to the link exchange request. Once logged in, the Webmaster goes to My Account and clicks on Current Jobs.

In Current Jobs, the Webmaster will see all of the jobs needed for a link exchange to take place. The Webmaster would then select one link and click on the respond link. This will then open a new Web page where the user may examine the link and either agree to link exchange or not.

If the user doesn’t agree to the link request, then this link exchange gets stopped and placed in the link request history. If the user does agree to the link exchange, then this link exchange request gets forwarded from the Webmaster’s current jobs and gets placed into Webmaster (RQ)’s Current Jobs.

Step

Webmaster (RQ) is required to place Webmaster (RC)’s link on his or her link page. Once RQ does, RQ submits his or her URL address to the link page where he or she has placed Webmaster (RC)’s link. At this moment, Link Market opens Webmaster (RQ)’s link page and looks for Webmaster (RC)’s link. If the link exists on the page, then step 2 is finished and this job gets moved from Webmaster (RQ)’s to Webmaster (RC)’s Current Jobs. Otherwise, this job gets marked as pending in step 2 until Webmaster (RQ) submits the valid link page.

Step

Webmaster (RC) is required to place a link to Webmaster (RQ)’s Web site. Once that’s done, Webmaster RC submits the URL address to the link page where he or she has placed Webmaster (RQ)’s link. Link Market opens Webmaster (RQ)’s link page and looks for Webmaster (RC)’s link. If the link exists, then step 3 is finished and this link exchange gets marked as successful. Otherwise, this job will be marked in step 3 as pending until Webmaster (RQ) submits a valid link page.

marketing for backlinks
Jeremy Hoover asked:

One great benefit of article marketing is the generation of high-quality backlinks.

Simply put, a backlink is a link to your website from another website. There is a difference in quality of backlinks, and search engines know the difference. When marketers first learned that search engines rewarded websites that had many links from other websites, they began to establish link farms (they traded links with each other) that were nothing more than pages upon pages of links. Clearly, these links were not helpful, either for someone looking to follow a link, or for the search engines, who at first supposed all the links meant a high-quality site was being linked to.

As search engines got smarter, marketers realized they needed links to be contextual: that is, there should be a body of content (at least a paragraph) surrounding the backlink. This new understanding defeated the purpose of link farms, and marketers began to understand and see the value in article marketing: They could write one article, send it to 100 or more article sites, hopefully have it reprinted several times, and have contextual (high-value) backlinks from a number of sources.

Generating quality backlinks is one of the real values in article marketing. But search engines have gotten smarter still, and they now tend to see this as a form of link spamming (though not as bad as the link farms).

So how can a marketer engage in article marketing to generate backlinks without appearing to spam? By subtly changing your content for every 20 or so submissions you make. Some marketers change the context immediately surrounding their website link, which is good, but I suggest you go a step further and actually edit your article a bit. If you aim for a 300 word article, and you write 350 words, pare it down to your original goal and submit your article to 20 or 25 sites.

Then, edit your article (and resource box) by working back in the extra 50 words and removing others to create a very similar, yet different, article (you can keep the same title). Submit again to another 20 sites or so. You can do this over and over again, because each time you rework your article (and your resource box), you will change the content enough that it doesn’t appear as though you are link spamming.

This is how you generate quality backlinks that search engines love.

What Makes a Good Keyword Rich Article

Saturday 11 October 2008 @ 1:45 pm
keyword rich pages
Dan Edgar asked:

When writing a keyword rich article, one of the main errors that many people make is misunderstanding what is actually involved. While keyword articles used to be just a collection of keywords put together in a 400-500 word feature, the ever-changing algorithms used by Google, Yahoo and more mean this is no longer a valid option. Therefore, you need to make sure that your keyword rich article is optimized properly for maximum effect.

Keyword Percentage

Since keywords are the main method for anyone finding your website through the search engines, the use of keyword rich articles has become a hugely important factor in increasing the SEO (search engine optimization) of any given site. Yet overloading a web page with keywords isn’t the answer - if anything, it will dilute the strength of the keywords in the article itself.

To truly maximize the effect of any optimized article, you should be aiming to have keyword usage of between 2-4%. This is widely regarded as the optimum figure for the most effective use of keywords. So, if your article is 500 words, you want to have between 10-20 keywords in the content. To increase the effectiveness even further, use 2-3 targeted keywords instead of simply the same one throughout. Not only will this help your SEO, it will also ensure that the article reads more naturally.

Keyword Placement

Another area that many people get wrong is the placing of the keywords throughout the article. Writing for the web is very different than writing for more traditional print mediums - the emphasis is placed on the opening and closing information. You want to grab attention and then leave the reader with a call to action, whether this is buy a product or sign up to a newsletter.

Therefore, instead of sprinkling the keywords throughout the whole article, you want to concentrate more on the beginning and end of the piece. You can still drop the odd keyword throughout the rest of the content, but it’s not quite as important as using rich keywords in your article’s opening and closing paragraphs. An SEO content writer knows the best way to use this approach effectively.

Keyword Strength

One of the other key areas of writing an effective keyword rich article is choosing which keywords or phrases to actually use. While you may feel that you want to use a specific keyword relating to your website or business, it won’t offer any real difference if the keyword is in a highly competitive market.

Instead, look at using a variation of the keyword. For example, “press release” is a heavily competed search term and any PR or media company using it would disappear amongst the thousands of results from search engines. However, change it to something like “search engine optimized press release” and it immediately targets a different niche.

As you can see, it still includes the phrase “press release”, but the fact that it is now part of a more targeted search term increases the likelihood of being found in the higher ranked search engine results. Known as “long-tail keywords” or “latent keywords”, it’s an extremely useful method of increasing the effectiveness of your keyword terms.

There are other areas you need to take into account and combine with these three methods to really make your articles as keyword rich and as SEO-friendly as possible. To maximize your results, always use expert SEO content writers or providers whenever you want a keyword rich article for your website.
